“I consider traveling to be a luxury, one that I’ve been lucky enough to experience in this lifetime and something I do not take for granted... I look back on all my travel experiences and think about how much I’ve changed throughout the years. I want to believe in something. Where can I find a new ideology? Where do I go to look for it and find it? Maybe it’ll be in a faraway place that I have yet to visit, or maybe it’s closer than I think it is.”

I explore what the word “journey” means to me both literally and figuratively through travel, faith, and memory in Reliquia. Detailing the various places I’ve traveled to around the world, I reflect on whether my Catholic upbringing still resonates with me as I’ve grown older, weighing it against the different experiences that have shaped me. Woven through this is what it means to be a first-generation daughter of Mexican immigrant parents, navigating identity across different cultures, ideologies, and continents.
